Game Source License
Version 1.0, October 2026. It comes with every game source download as LICENSE.txt. Asset packs and kits have their own asset license.
In short
The full terms below are what count.
- Make and sell your own games with this project, as many as you like, on any platform.
- Change anything: code, art, sounds, levels.
- Before you publish, give your game its own name, logo and icon, and make it your own: no near-copies.
- Don't share, resell or upload the project, its code or its art for other people to reuse.
- One purchase covers one person, or one company and the people working on its games.
1. What this covers
"The Project" is everything in the download you bought: the GameMaker and Godot projects, code, scripts, tools, art, animations, sounds, music, levels, fonts we made and documents. "Your Game" is a finished game, app or interactive product that you make with the Project and give to players in compiled form (for example an app, a desktop or console build, or an HTML5 game). "You" is the buyer.
2. Who may use it
One purchase gives one license to:
- one person; or
- one company or studio, for its own employees and contractors while they work on that company's games.
You may keep the Project in private storage and private code repositories that only those people can open. You may not transfer or sublicense this license to anyone else.
3. What you may do
Guidry Games grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual license (it ends only under section 7) to:
- a. use, study, run and change the Project in any way;
- b. use the Project, changed or not, inside any number of your own games, free or commercial, on any platform, and sell, publish and earn money from those games (sales, ads, in-app purchases);
- c. use pictures and video of Your Game, including the Project's art as it appears in it, in trailers, screenshots, store pages and marketing for Your Game;
- d. hire others (for example an artist or programmer) to change the Project for Your Game, as long as they use it only for that work.
4. Before you publish
For every game you release to the public:
- a. Give it its own name, logo, app icon and bundle/package ID. Don't use the names or logos of our games (for example "Lantern Ronin", "Tank Wars", "Orbotron Run") or the name "Guidry Games" for your game, and don't suggest that we made, sponsor or endorse it.
- b. Make it your own. Your Game may not be a near-copy of our game. Besides the new name and icon, you must substantially change at least one of: (i) the art (most of what players see is new or reworked), or (ii) the gameplay and content (new levels plus new or changed rules, modes or features).
- c. Don't publish several near-identical games built from the Project ("app spam"); app stores ban this too.
- d. Follow the rules of the store or platform you publish on.
You may tell players that your game was made with a Guidry Games project, but you don't have to.
5. What you may not do
- a. Sell, share, give away, upload, publish or otherwise make the Project, or any part of it (code, art, sounds, levels), available on its own or in a way that lets other people reuse it. This includes asset stores, template or source-code marketplaces, kits, libraries, public code repositories (for example a public GitHub repo), file-sharing sites and "open source" releases, whether the files are changed or not. Shipping the Project's files inside Your Game in the normal way is fine; packing them so that players can pull them out for reuse is not.
- b. Use the Project's art, or anything made from it, in a logo, trademark or service mark.
- c. Claim that you made the original Project or its art, or register any copyright or trademark in them.
- d. Use the Project, or anything made from it, to create NFTs or other blockchain tokens.
- e. Remove this license file or the copyright notices from copies of the Project that you keep.
6. Other people's parts
Some files in the Project come from others under their own licenses, listed in README.txt, for example fonts under the SIL Open Font License and icons under the Apache License 2.0. Those files follow their own licenses, which are included with them. GameMaker and Godot are separate products with their own terms.
7. When the license ends
If you break these terms, your license ends automatically. You must then stop using the Project, delete your copies, and stop selling or distributing any game that breaks these terms. Copies of Your Game that players already bought before the license ended may stay with those players. Guidry Games keeps any other rights it has under the law.
8. Ownership
Guidry Games keeps all rights to the Project that are not granted here. You own what you add to it. Your rights to use the Project come from this agreement.
9. No warranty
THE PROJECT IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. Guidry Games does not promise that the Project is free of errors, that it will work with future versions of GameMaker or Godot, or that any store will accept a game made with it. We are not obliged to provide updates or support, though we try to help.
10. Limit of liability
TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, GUIDRY GAMES IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR REVENUE, ARISING FROM THE PROJECT OR THIS LICENSE, AND ITS TOTAL LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE PROJECT.
11. General
By buying, downloading or using the Project you agree to these terms. This is the whole agreement between you and Guidry Games about the Project. If any part of it can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where Guidry Games has its principal place of business.
