Retro Commando HD Art Pack

Every piece of HD art from our run-and-gun game Retro Commando: the commando and the whole E.V.I.L. army, fully animated, the 868-tile map tileset in ten themes, twelve levels of parallax backgrounds, pickups, effects and a complete game UI, all in one bold cartoon style. Plain PNG files that work in any engine, with setup notes for GameMaker and Godot.

The commando's 13-frame run cycle

The commando runs, grabs coins and shoots it out with an E.V.I.L. soldier, straight from the pack's own frames over a jungle background and tiles. Every animation's frames share one origin between the feet, so switching from running to shooting to jumping never makes a character slide. Under it: the 13-frame run cycle as it comes in the pack.

Engine notes

  • GameMaker: import each sheet with Import Strip Image (frame size and count from sprites.json), set the custom origin and frames per second from sprites.json; make Tile Sets from the 128 px sheets.
  • Godot: build SpriteFrames from the sheets (Add frames from sprite sheet) for AnimatedSprite2D, offset by the origin; TileSet with 128 px atlas tiles for TileMapLayer; one Parallax2D per background layer.
  • Any engine: everything is plain transparent PNG; sprites.json lists every animation's frame size, frame count, origin and speed, and the tile guide numbers every tile.

Questions

Which engines does it work with?

Any engine that takes PNG files: GameMaker, Godot, Unity, Construct, Defold, your own. The README has step-by-step setup for GameMaker and Godot 4.

Which way do the characters face?

Right. Flip them horizontally in your engine to face left (GameMaker: image_xscale = -1; Godot: flip_h).

Is the game's music or level design included?

No: this pack is the art only. The music, sounds and level maps aren't part of it.

Can I use it in a game I sell?

Yes, in as many games as you like, free or commercial. You can't resell or share the art files themselves. See the asset license.

How do I get it after paying?
